What We Believe

Our core beliefs at Smith Grove

Our Beliefs

Smith Grove is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Below you can read through our core beliefs. For a more comprehensive statement of our denomination’s convictions, follow this link to the Baptist Faith & Message.

God

We believe there is one God existing in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (The Trinity). God is eternal and He is the creator of the universe. God is holy and will ultimately judge the world.

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is God’s son. He was born of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit. He is the God-Man who lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and was buried and rose from the grave. Jesus has ascended into heaven and will visibly return to the earth.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the person of God who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of the judgement to come. He is the divine counselor and assistant to believers. His primary role is to represent Christ in the life of a Christian and strengthen believers in living the Christian life.

The bible

We believe the Bible is the Holy Word of God. It is God’s complete message to mankind recorded with perfect accuracy in the original languages of Scripture. It is the infallible final authority for faith and practice of Christian living.

People

We believe people are God’s special creations. They are made in His image but through the fall of sin are utterly depraved and unable to change this condition apart from the saving work of Jesus Christ.

Salvation

We believe salvation is God’s gift to people brought by grace and received by a personal faith in the person of Jesus Christ. Every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in Christ. Those who do not receive God’s gift of salvation die in their sins and will spend eternity in hell.

THE CHURCH

We believe the universal church is the body and bride of Christ and is a spiritual organism made up of persons who have been spiritually born-again. The local church is made up of baptized believers with Christ as their head.
